Air Compressor Equipment, Inc.
Who We Are, and How We Serve You

About Us

Three Generations of Excellence Where we came from: a Legacy of Grit, Innovation, and Trust since 1972 In a modest shop in downtown Jacksonville, Florida, two brothers—Larry and Donnie turned the hard-earned knowledge of machines into what would become one of the Southeast’s most trusted names in industrial air compressor systems: Air Compressor Equipment, Inc. (ACE). Built not from capital but from callouses, ACE was born in 1972 in the grit and grease of real mechanical work, where solutions were forged by hand and reputations were built job by job.

How it happened: from Ships to Shops

Larry’s expertise didn’t come from textbooks it came from steel decks, diesel engines, and blistering engine rooms aboard an aircraft carrier, the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. In the Navy, Larry learned air systems the hard way witnessing the aftermath of an 8,000 PSI compressor explosion, rebuilding ship systems under live pressure, and repacking main propeller shaft seals underwater in flooding compartments. By the time he stepped off the ship, he was more than trained he was forged. That mechanical instinct and courage would become the cornerstone of ACE’s mechanical DNA. While Larry came from the engine rooms of the Navy, Donnie brought his experience from Army ground equipment. Where Larry thrived in hands-on technical problem-solving, his brother was a natural salesman who liked to come through back doors and garages, seeing opportunities on the ground where the rubber hit the road with the engineers and technicians who needed reliable solutions. The partnership worked. Larry fixed everything his brother could sell.

Whatever It Took: The Early Days

In the early years, ACE wasn’t just compressors. Larry said yes to everything—painting equipment, pressure washers, vacuum systems, tire machines, even automotive lifts. If a dealership had a need, ACE answered the call. Whether installing underground exhaust systems at a Buick dealership or repairing undercoating pumps that ate seals for breakfast, Larry never backed down from a challenge. These weren’t clean, well-lit work environments. ACE mechanics crawled through nasty cow lanes at dairies, waded into mold-covered compressor rooms, and once rescued a Cadillac stuck on a broken lift using a mix of custom additives and reclaimed oil. They said yes when others said no—and earned customers for life.

Why Compressed Air: how Compressors took Center Stage

As demand grew, one thing became clear: compressors were the heart of the operation. While others specialized in one brand or model, ACE grew fluent in everything from Curtis and Quincy to Ingersoll Rand and beyond. By the time they were serving heavy users in the railroad industry and food processing, ACE was building, servicing, and maintaining systems with 600+ horsepower with desiccant dryers, oil systems, and complex fluid handling lines. Larry’s knowledge wasn’t just broad—it was deep. From high-pressure 8,000 PSI compressors in Navy engine rooms to multi-reel oil systems in auto shops, he understood not only how machines worked but how people depended on them, and along the way he created a team with his insight, curiosity, and mechanical grit.

Who Carries the Legacy: how we Continue the Excellence

Larry didn’t just build machines—he built people. From the earliest days of ACE, he brought in mechanics not for their résumés, but for their grit, hands-on skill, and heart for solving problems. Some came from rival companies, drawn by Larry’s reputation and leadership. Some were hired through relationships, brought in because Larry saw potential others missed. And then there was Carl—Larry’s son—who grew up walking the warehouse floors, soaking in the sounds, smells, and wisdom of the trade. Carl was always the natural choice to take over the mechanical and leadership legacy, his natural ability and deep familiarity with the business made him a perfect fit. Under Larry’s mentorship, Carl evolved from shop kid to respected leader, now guiding a staff of remarkably talented technicians with the same blend of excellence, curiosity, and hands-on expertise that his father modeled for decades. Today, Carl doesn’t just run a business—he carries a legacy.

50 Years Later: Still Curious, Capable, and Competent

Today, ACE operates with the same curiosity and hands-on spirit that Larry brought from the Navy. His legacy runs deep in the team—many of whom were handpicked by Larry himself, often poached from competitors or hired based on character and mechanical instinct. Our employees aren’t just staff—they’re family, trained in ACE’s way: “get your hands dirty, solve the problem, and never walk away from a customer in need”. Every mechanic goes through the “compressor school” one job at a time. Every system is installed with precision and pride. And every repair is backed by the confidence of five decades of field-proven expertise.

Why ACE: how do We Stand Out in Commercial Compressors?
